There is pure fear in their eyes as they huddle together. The blond softly says to me, “Sam, did you forget who I am? Your friend gave me the garlic to protect me remember? Please don’t do anything to hurt us.”
“You appeal to me as if I give a shit,” I hiss and I grab her by the wrist and roughly pull her close to me.
“Let her go man! Don’t do anything that you’ll regret,” the male says to me.
“You mean like this,” I ask and with my nail, I cut the blond down her arm. A nice thin stream of blood begins to spill out but the garlic is still strong in her system so as much as I want to, I don’t have a taste. The blond is crying hysterically and to shut her up, I slap her across the face and she falls to the ground. She looks up at me in shock as the male says, “Sam have you lost your mind?”
I’m about to respond but I get slammed from behind while I see Rob grab the girl off the ground. I look to see who is holding me down and I yell at Harry, “Get the hell of me!”
He ignores my request as JoJo says, “Hold him down for as long as you can! We need Gina to finish off Ursela and he’ll be back to normal!”
“What do you think I’m doing,” Harry asks while he struggles to hold onto me.
The human Diane shouts, “I’ll go see how Gina is doing!”
As she begins to head back towards the field, a voice in my head says Stop her! Finding the strength I push Harry off me and run after Diane. I grab her and without thinking I snap her neck. I hear the humans scream in anguish as I let her limp body fall to the ground. I then turn to face the group as I say, “Who else is ready for more?”
“What have you done,” Tiffany hollers at me while tears are streaming down her face. “Oh my god you killed her!”
I’m about to answer when I feel a massive shockwave of pain overcome my body and I drop to the ground. I didn’t understand what is happening and as I try to hold in my screams, a huge one escapes my lips. The pain is unlike anything I’ve ever felt before and as my body twists up in agony my only thoughts are of asking for death. Anything had to better than this.
I feel the others come near me and I hear JoJo ask, “What’s going on? What’s happening to him?”
Rob replies, “I think it’s finally happened.”
“You mean Ursela is defeated?”
They talk among themselves until I let out another roar from the pain. I then feel Harry kneel down beside me as he whispers, “Hang in there son. My daughter needs you. Stay strong for Gina.”
The male human steps forward and screeches, “Are you kidding? He killed Diane! We can’t just let that go Harry!”
Harry quickly gets to his feet and responds, “Steve you know that wasn’t the real Sam. He was under Ursela’s control. You know he’ll feel guilty enough when this is over. He’ll have to live with what he’s done for the rest of his existence. Sam carries his guilt like he’s carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders so if you ask me, that’s punishment enough.”
The male backs down and Harry returns back to my side. “Harry, something is definitely wrong here. Look at him,” Rob says while he leans over me.
I let out a loud growl as my entire body feels like it’s been set on fire. I squeeze my eyes closed in hopes this pain will fade quickly but it feels like as each second that passes the pain increases. And when it reaches a point where I can’t take it anymore, it stops and I feel myself falling into darkness. I hear Harry frantically yell, “Sam! Sam can you hear me?”
As I continue to slip away, a flashback of the past year appears in front of my closed eyelids and after I see the final image of her, I say barely above a whisper, “Gina.” And I pass out. Hopefully it’s not for good.
Okay, Can I Run Now?
(Gina)
I pray that Harry heard me as I’m dragged back towards the middle of the field and then I’m flipped over onto my back like I’m a damn pancake. I look up to see Ursela who has Mark in her grasp and I immediately get to my feet while I hiss to her, “You better let him go right now Ursela!”
She gives me a wicked grin as she responds, “But of course Gina. Let me just give him something special first.”
She whips out her dagger and I halt as I stare at the weapon every vampire is afraid of. It’s a little over a foot long and the blade has a curvy zig zag shape instead of the normal straight blade like on other daggers I’ve seen. The handle is gold and it has a two-headed dragonhead at the end where the faces are each facing the outside. Their eyes are made of a green gem that seems to glow with power. It was impressive and frightening at the same time.
She holds it up and in a quick motion she cuts Mark on the inside of his hand. Then she holds up his hand and as the blood pours out, she runs her tongue across the wound. A look of desire hits her face as she licks her lips and says, “Yummy.”
My anger is at an intense rage as I say, “Do that again and I swear you will regret it.”
Ursela glares at me with her glowing green eyes as she says, “Just come try me.”
I’m ready to lunge for her but Joseph beats me to the punch. He charges forward as I yell, “Joseph no!”
Ignoring my pleas he keeps going and Ursela turns in his direction. She raises the dagger to plunge it into Mark and Joseph quickens his pace. I know I need to do something but my body remains frozen while my brain locks into Ursela’s and I suddenly see what I’m looking for. As she continues to focus on Mark and Joseph, she unlocks all her secrets and everything is open to me and I see what I need to do the kill her. And I can’t believe it is something so simple that I want to hit myself for not thinking of it sooner. But I get distracted as I see the horror happening right in front of my eyes.
Joseph reaches Mark but he’s not paying attention to her dagger. While her arm is still raised he is able to grab him and push him out of the way as she jams it right into his shoulder blade. She didn’t stab him directly in the heart but the magic on the blade still is excruciating and he screams out as he goes down to the ground. I also scream as seeing in Ursela’s mind, he’s going to die but it’ll just be slower and more painful since it missed his heart. Eyeing my reaction, she smiles with satisfaction knowing I will suffer as well while watching him die. Joseph lies on the ground as his body and face twists up in pain. I look over at Mark who is also in pain. When Joseph pushed him, he used a little too much force and when Mark landed, he broke his arm but I know I don’t have to worry since the venom will help him heal.
I glare at Ursela and with everything I have left in me, I scream where it seems to echo miles around me but I keep all my energy focused only on Ursela. She has never heard me scream before and since she wasn’t expecting the effect of it, she drops the dagger as she puts her hands to her head. I mentally bring it over to me but I hand it to David and say, “Hold this for me.”
“What? Kiddo, are you nuts? Now is your chance to take her down,” he says in protest.
I smirk as I respond, “Oh I’ll take her down.” I then flash over to Ursela while she staggers back to her feet and I punch her a couple of times and she falls back to the ground. While hovering over her I snarl, “I’m just not gonna make it easy for her.”
Just when I think I’m on the path to finally beating her, Ursela quickly springs back into action and she kicks me as she rises to her feet. “So you’re looking for an old fashioned fight huh Gina,” she leers at me.
I also get on my feet as I reply, “Yep. Think you can handle that?”
She smiles as she says, “Bring it on.”
“As you wish bitch!”
Her smile turns wicked and I charge forward as she does the same and when we both collide, it sounds like two trucks crashing into one another. She underestimates my strength as I match each of her blows and we both get a little winded as we continue to knock each other around. Part of me thinks I should have listened to David and finished her off quickly. But I think of everything Ursela has done since she came across the black magic centuries ago. I think of all the vampires she enslaved and all the people she had killed. I remember Carla and how viciously she killed my mother. I recall David’s story of his transformation and how she killed his maker Peter and left David to be alone. I see Joseph on the ground dying and most importantly I think of Sam and how he struggled with her venom while I was still human. I remember all the vampires that were sent to kidnap or destroy me and the great lengths Sam went through just to protect me. I think back to our first meeting at Niagara Falls where I was willing to trade my life for his until he once again came to my rescue. I remember when she took him away from me after saying our goodbyes and that was the final straw that broke the camel’s back.
I grab her by the throat and deck her right in the jaw. With every punch I throw at her my fury increases. After a few more hits I hiss at her, “Your reign as queen is over Ursela. I’m taking the throne now.”
She hisses back, “I will never allow you to be queen.”
I pull her closer as I say, “I didn’t ask for your permission.” I hit her again and I bark, “Time to die Ursela!”
I stand up and I mentally grab the dagger from David’s hand. But when I go to stab her, she uses her magic to zap me away from her and she floats in the air. When I stare at her, her eyes bore into mine as her face takes on an evil shape and I almost don’t recognize her. She growls as she says, “You will not defeat me Gina! You don’t have what it takes to bring me down!”
She lets out a shriek and all the vampires around us begin to howl in pain. I don’t understand why she excluded me but I watch as my friends are in pain as well and my fury allows me to rise off the ground as well. I still have the dagger and I raise it up as she comes towards me. I know I only have one shot but if I miss, we’ll all be destroyed. Man I want to throw up.
Time to Ruin My Pants & Kneel
(Charlie)
The pain Ursela is sending to us is almost unbearable but I still want to see Gina take her down. I still can’t believe that she was able to get the dagger but I’m sure what she’s going to do with it. Did Gina figure out how to destroy Ursela? Time is running out so I can only hope for a big fat yes.
Ursela stops bellowing so I’m able to stand up to watch. Evan runs over and says, “We gotta help her.”
I hold him back as I respond, “No. She has to do this on her own. But we can keep the others away from her.”
“Right.”
Evan commences to kick ass while I stand guard and as a vampire tries to approach Gina, I just throw my shield on them. Why waste time fighting and ruin my clothes more when I can just burn them up? Easy as pie. I watch as Gina struggles with Ursela and I worry that she won’t survive. Every time Ursela gets in a shot, I cringe. But Gina bounces right back and knocks her around some more. I’m impressed at how tough my sister-in-law is. You go girl.
A vampire tries to sneak up behind me and I turn just as she approaches and I tackle her down before I burn her up. I look around to see how the others are doing when I hear a horrible shriek. I turn back and I see Gina over Ursela. She stands and the dagger is sticking out of Ursela’s chest while she lies on the ground screaming. Then she begins to shrivel until she is nothing but a pile of bones. It is finally over. Ursela is dead.
Suddenly the vampires that she enslaved fall to the ground screaming in pain. A shook up Mark comes over to me while nursing his arm and asks, “What’s going on?”
I sigh as I say, “It could be one of two things. The venom is leaving their body or worse.” He flinches and I take his arm to examine it. “It’s healing just right but don’t move it too much or it won’t set properly.”
David walks over while holding a torn shirt in his hands. He fixes it on Mark to become a sling and then he grunts as he says, “There you go Marky Mark. You’ll be okay now.”
Mark softly says, “Thanks. Where’s Gina?”
He points as he whispers, “Over there.”
We turn and see Gina on the ground next to Joseph. She leans over and when we reach her, I see that she bit him. She lifts her head and I see the tears in her eyes. Gina looks up at me and says, “I tried to save him. I thought maybe if my venom got inside him, it would be powerful enough to bring him back to life. I tried to…”
Evan kneels beside her and murmurs, “It’s okay Gina. You did what you could for him.”
I look down at Joseph, who appears more pale than usual. I just bow my head as I whisper, “Good-bye Joseph. Be at peace my friend.”
While looking around, the other vampires lay still and Gina suddenly jumps up as she screams out, “Sam. I need to check on Sam!”
And she runs out towards the exit with me right on her heels.
Reunion
(Gina)
I have to get to Sam. I need to make sure that he’s okay. When I saw the other vampires lying on the ground, I instantly panicked thinking something terrible has happened to him and that he could really be dead. I need to see for myself that Sam is still alive. I don’t want to think I defeated Ursela (whoa I really can’t believe that I killed her) and he still died. I don’t want to have to spend an eternity without him.
I reach the parking lot with the others right behind me and I see my friends on the ground next to Diane. Mark runs over and when I feel his anguish, I rush to their side but the moment I do, the tears immediately start to reform.
With tears in her eyes, Amber looks up at me and says, “Gina? Oh my god is it over?”
“Yes Amber. What happened to Diane?”
“She’s dead! Harry said there’s nothing he can do for her. She’s gone.”
I gasp as I let the tears fall. David hovers over and I’m shocked by the sadness that’s on his face. He slowly kneels beside her body while his brain tries to make sense of why this is bothering him. The connection he had with Diane is broken and he just kisses her forehead and he whispers, “Bye Curly Sue. I’m sorry I wasn’t here to protect you.”
I start to say something as he gets on his feet but looking at his face I change my mind. I just look at her body and I whisper, “I’m so sorry Diane.”
I get up and see the other vampires start spilling out from the football field. I smile as I see all the ice blue and gold eyes staring back at me. I look at Charlie and he beams as he gazes behind me and I turn my head. My body freezes when I see what he’s staring at.
Sam is standing a few feet away from me. I look into his bright golden eyes and I want to shout for joy that he survived. His facial expression is of sadness and joy as he continues to stare at me. I walk over to him and just stare at him some more as I scan his thoughts. Yes, he’s back to normal again. All traces of Ursela’s poison have forever left his body. I slowly stroke his face as I say, “Sam? Is it really you?”
He reaches up to take my hand into his as he replies, “Yes love. You did it. You really saved me.”
“I told you I was never giving up,” I reply. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” His face then turns sad as he says, “It’s my fault. Diane died because of me.”
I shake my head as I say, “Baby it wasn’t your fault. Whatever you’ve done, you weren’t yourself. Nobody is gonna blame you.”
“I blame myself.”
He takes both my hands as Charlie comes over. He studies Sam for a second and then he pulls him in for a fierce hug. “I’m so glad you’re safe baby brother.”
Sam grins as he says, “I missed you too bro. Thank you for watching Gina for me.”
“Of course. I didn’t let one scratch get on her.”
They both smile as Sam says, “You better go check on Tiffany.”
Charlie just nods and then walks over to my friends and Sam turns to face me. I still can’t believe he’s really standing here looking exactly the same way as the day I first heard him say hello to me. No longer will he struggle with his hunting or eyes turning green. The Sam I first met is the Sam I’m going to have forever. We just stare at each other and after a moment David barks out, “Oh go ahead already. I’ll tolerate the mush for right now.”
I can’t help myself as I laugh while I feel Sam wrap his arms around me. He tilts my chin up and without waiting another moment, we locks into a deep kiss that erases all the time we’ve been apart. My arms go around his neck and our passion for each other builds up. We are about to take it a step further when we realize that we’re not alone. We pull apart as Charlie says with a smirk, “We hope you two can at least wait until we get home right?”
“Yeah sorry,” I say feeling embarrassed.
David mutters, “Mush,” as my friends come over to hug us.
After assuring them I’m okay, I see all the vampires standing around as if they’re waiting for something. Coming up next to me, Charlie says, “Well your court is waiting. Are you going to say anything?”
“I honestly don’t know what I’m supposed to do now. This is weird,” I reply.
After slapping Sam on the back Alex says, “Come on Mrs. St. James time for you to step up.”
Rob is also grinning as he says, “We thank you your Highness for freeing us. We are forever in your debt.”
“Yes thank you your Majesty,” JoJo adds.
That begins a chorus of thanks you’s that trickles out among the other vampires and they all then bow down to me. We all stare at them in complete shock where Amber whispers, “Shut up.”
Mark whispers to me after bowing, “So are you enjoying your moment?”
I grin nervously as I reply, “Dude, I wanna faint right now.”
